BREAK OPEN TICKET INFORMATION

History in Ontario

Although technically called `Break Open Tickets’ or BOTs (Pull Tabs in other jurisdictions), the common name for this popular form of fundraising in Ontario is "Nevada" Tickets. This is due to the fact that the first and only style of such ticket available in Ontario years ago was called `Nevada Club’  featuring the standard bars & bells symbols found on the original slot machines in Las Vegas.  As with bingo, this product is regulated in most jurisdictions and requires a lottery license in order to be sold by a charity or non-profit organization. So check with the Alcohol & Gaming Commission or municipal office in your area to determine the rules for sale. In Ontario it is the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) that is the regulatory body.
